Satronics Dowa 220v to 110v/120v Step Down Converters

The step-down converter described in this manual can also be referred to as a Dowa 220v to 110v output voltage converter. This device will convert the AC mains voltage from your home or office outlet (220v) to 110v/120v. This allows you to use appliances designed for 110v or 120v—like those purchased in the USA—in countries with a 220v AC mains voltage, such as South Africa.
Important Note: This voltage converter no an inverter which is used in load shedding.
Choosing the Right Model: When selecting a converter model, ensure it is rated at least 40% higher than the appliance’s power requirement. This recommendation accounts for power surges that can occur during municipal power outages or when using motor-driven appliances that may need short bursts of additional power, like angle grinders or devices with fluctuating power loads. You can find the power rating of your appliance in the manual or on a sticker located on the appliance. Use selection guide shown below
Frequency Considerations: The mains frequency is not converted. North American appliances typically require 110v or 120v input at 60Hz, while South Africa’s mains frequency is 220v at 50Hz. Generally, most appliances designed for 60Hz will function with minimal effect at 50Hz. However, certain appliances may experience timing and efficiency issues. If uncertain, consult the appliance manufacturer to determine if the frequency difference will impact the appliance’s performance.
Using the Converter as a Step-Up: If you need to use the converter to step up from 110v mains voltage ( Converter to be used in North America) to power a 220v appliance, contact Satronics for additional setup information.
Recent Upgrades: Satronics converters now include additional safety features depending on the model, such as circuit breaker, overload reset, and fuse. Dowa converters also comply with both local and international certifications.

DW1000: Recommended for appliances rated at 110v/120v with total power of 714 watt or less.
DW2000: Recommend appliances rated at 110v/120v with total power of 1428 watt or less.
DW5000: Recommended for appliances rated at 110v/120v with total power of 3571 watt or less.

Initial setup:

Plug three pin SA plug into mains socket. Plug your North American three pin or two pin plugs into any of the front panel sockets. You can plug in more than one appliance into the front panel, however the total power of all the appliances should not exceed the recommended maximum watts.  Inserting US plug may be stiff on first time use. Slight wiggle pressure would be required . There will be a slight AC hum from the transformer when switched on. When not in use switch off the converter. In case the converter is overloaded the fuse will blow. Spare fuses or reset switch are provided. The 220v/110v covered switch on the back panel is not to be moved if the converter is used in SA.

If you intend to use the converter in North America, contact Satronics and additional setup information will be provided. …
